Facebook Anthem Video

I have never used facebook, but I’m still tired of it. I thought this was cool song, and since it’s an viral video, I thought I could post it here. :)

BTW; I have been without net the last couple of days, but will write an update post later today tomorrow, probably. Stay tuned.

Just Random Ramble

I’m sorry, but this post is not about anything special, just some thoughts I got in my head right now.

First of all;

I have taken away the Money Magnet widget, and realised that the service where nothing else then a kinda pyramid scheme. I haven’t sold one single widget. (which tells me I got readers that are smarter then my self! Hehe) So I consider my $20 lost, but thats totally ok.

Wheres the update?

I haven’t updated so often latly, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not active on the net, in mather of fact, I have never made so much new sites in one week before. Hehe, but, since so much of my time are used to do that, VikingBlogger got neglected this week.

Mixed thoughts about PeyPerPost

I got some mixed thoughts about me joining PeyPerPost. So far I haven’t written a review for them yet (if you don’t count the “I joined PP”-post.) and I’m not sure if I will either. First of all; to get a decent amount paid to write the post your blog need to have an high PR. A lot of people saying that Google slaps peoples PR if they use PayPerPost. That way, this blog with no PR will never get a decent PR, and then never make any talkable (my word!) amount of money. Thats an evil circle to be in. Hehe.

What I think will save PPP is to make all the links no-follow, and don’t sell themself out as an link building service. Instead it should be a service thatthat people can use to get buzz around their new sites/products)

I know it’s partly this way now, but I think it should be a fully buzz/review site with no-follow links. And for craying out loud, get rid of all the low paying ads. Who in their right mind will give away their time, blog space, and link juice for $5?

Hmm, not sure if that makes any sence for you, but hopefully you know what I mean. :)

Some link love

Well, thought I could be nice to show some link love in this post. My first spray goes to my 5 top commentators.

As you can see, right now you only need to write 3+ comments to get a free link in the sidebar. Don’t know if it brings any traffic, but hey,it can’t harm you, can it? :)

The second, and last spray goes to a couple contests which I actually have sponsored:

Thewwwblog.com ($350 worth of prizes)

The University Kid (Kinda big contest)

And of course my own, where you can win thousands of Entrecard credits!

Money Magnet - Next Big Thing?

moneymagnet.gif

Today I have spent $20 to buy myself a Money Magnet, which you can find in the sidebar.

It is a 125×125 widget that you place on your site/blog. Other people can then buy the widget with your refferal url, and the great part about it, its not possible to get one without using an refferal url. :) So, to be allowed to sell these widgets you have to buy one yourself. Based on how much you pay you can earn up to $50 each time you sell one. I paid $20 for mine, and earns $10 each time someone buys on with my link. So, have to sell 2 widgets to breake even, that should be possible right?

moneymagnet-table.gif

As you can se on the table I can not sell widgets that costs $10. That way I secure that I earn $10 per sale instead of $5. Do as me, buy a $20 widget. :) sell 2 and start to earn some cash! The money comes to your paypal instantly!

Sold my Soul - Joined PayPerPost

Update 1. mai 2008: I are no longer using PPP services. I want my PR!
payperpost-logo.gifAs I’m looking after ways to monetize this blog, getting paid to do reviews are a natural way to make money. Today VikingBlogger.com finally got approved at PayPerPost. Long story short they provide bloggers with reviews, where they pay them (the bloggers) between $5-$200 per review. (Usually in the $10 range)

There are several houndreds of offers avalible to get rewied, but you can’t pick them all. The advertisers that makes the offers can set some terms which your blog have to meet. The most used one is page rank. If you don’t have x high page rank you don’t get paid to review the product.

Since VikingBlogger.com don’t have a page rank yet I’m not looking on a high income stream from PayPerPost yet, but it might get alright with time. And don’t fear, I’m not going to fill this blog up with paid reviews of all sorts. If I’m doing a review it’s going to be something that has to do with the theme of the blog, or something that I’m really interested in. (ex. phones)

$20 sign-up bonus (kinda)

When you get your blog approved you got at least one offer avaliable for you, and thats PayPerPost themself. Write a little “I joined PayPerPost” post at your blog, and get paid $20 doing so. (Like I am now!)

Are you selling reviews on your blog? Thoughts?

The Viewty Project - The Take Off is Hard

My internet connection is still down, and it’s getting really annoying. Anyway, I grabbed dinner at Burger King today, and happily they got free wireless internet, which I of course will use to it fullest.

I thought it was on time I updated you guys on my little Viewty Forum project. Thing is, I haven’t done much with the site yet. I just don’t got time, but I have done something.

It’s not easy

One thing is for sure, it’s not easy to start a niche forum/site. Where to advertise it? There aren’t that many sites that I know for a fact got users with a LG KU990 Viewty mobile phone. And since my site/forum only attracts these people I got an advertising issue. So far I have used about $20 on PPC, and got around 60+ clicks for it. Which no one converted to members.

I think I started with PPC way to fast, since the forum almost don’t have any members, or content. So, lesson number 1; Have something to give your readers before spending your advertising money.

Make SEO-friendly sub-pages.

I have started to make some sub-pages outside the forum, the thought is to get these as SEO-friendly as possible. I’m applying standard SEO rules to archive this. The ones I have made so far are:

http://www.viewtyforum.com

http://www.viewtyforum.com/download-lg-ku990-viewty-games.php

Adding games each day

My tactic is to keep adding games to the forum, and the sub-page each day to get visitors come back, and check if there are some new games. I haven’t had time to do this yet, but hopefully I will.

How to get people as members

What is the best way to get people becoming an member on a forum? Now they only have to register if they want to post topics, or answer on some. I’m also thinking on making it so they have to be a member to read the topics as well, what do you think about that? Will that scare more members away, then making them register?

Getting some search traffic

viewtyforum-analytics.gifI haven’t posted the link to viewtyforum on any other sites then this blog, but already it gets some small amount of search traffic. Yesterday the site reach a peak of 27 visits from google. Not bad considering I haven’t started on the link building.

If the amount of visits from the search engines keep going this way, I will be a happy champ. :) The quality is quite good as well;

Pages/Visit: 3.97
Bounce Rate: 27.66%

Thats where I am today, the forum have actually got 5 members, where two of them have written something. what I have to do now is;

  • Start building up some links
  • Make a couple more SEO-friendly pages.
  • Make more topics in the forum

VikingBlogger Going Social

I haven’t tried to get traffic from social sites like twitter, pownce etc before. But yesterday I finally made a profile on some social sites, and are going to update them with news about my posting on VikingBlogger. I’m not sure what to expect, but it could be fun to see if I get any traffic from this.

So far I have made a profile on 4 sites. They are as follows:

Plaxo

twitter-logo.png

twitter

pownce-logo.gif

Pownce

tumblr-logo.gif

Tumblr

If you got a profile on any of these sites, I would be really happy if you added me as a friend/ followed me:)

Add posts to all of them with one click

hellotxt-logo.gifI found a post at BlueVerse, where he recommended a service called hellotxt. Short described you can send updates to your profile on different social sites with one click. You just provide them with the username and password, then write the post, and

hellotxt-services.gif

click send. hellotxt will then automatic update your profile with the new post. I have tried their service with the four above sites, and it works like a

charm. In additional they support the following sites:

Do you get any traffic from social sites like these?

Sunday Numbers #7

Sorry for a lot of stats post lately, but its new month and new Sunday almost at the same time. :)

(Last week in parentheses)
Alexa: 215,825 (215,825)
Technorati: 126,758 (170,597)
Authority: 59 (46)
RSS readers: 60 (63)

Alexa haven’t updated yet, but on next update I’m hoping to climb even closer to the 100k mark. It has taken longer then I expected though. The Technorati rank is moving good, and soon I’m one of the top 100.000 bloggers! (hehe!) I don’t know what happened with the RSS subscribers, but yesterday I had 67, and today it’s down to 60, so overall this week I have lost 3 subscribers. This week and the next week I will really push the Entrecard contest, since it’s ending soon, so I hope the numbers are higher on the next update. I only wrote seven posts last week, but still got over 100 new comments which are great! On an avreage there is almost 10 comments per post.

Up till now, I have written the Sunday Numbers each week. I think this is to much, and the numbers aren’t changing so fast, so from now I’m going to update them every two weeks.

My Goals for March

For each month I’m going to make a post where I’ll try to write up some of my goals for the month. Now we have started on March, and here are what I need to get done within the month:

  • Get over 100 subscribers.
  • Get over 3000 unique visitors
  • Sell 2 125×125 banners
  • Get the final VB t-shirt made

So, around 1 new subscriber each day, hopefully that will happen. :) I have set the number of uniques a bit lower then last month, but this is because I’m not going to use as much money on advertising this month. So I’m reaching after around 100 uniques each day. I have already sold 1 125×125 spot, and my goal is to sell one more. Then it’s the shirt. I have it almost done, and they are soon ready to be sold/given away. ;)

Monthly Stats and Income Report - Feb 08

The first whole month in VikingBlogger.com history is finally over, and this post marks the start of my monthly income and stats reports. Since I haven’t focused so much on monetizing the site yet there is not much to show of yet, but I’ll run the report anyway. :)

Income

Affiliate - $42,38

Private ad sale - $10

Reviews - $45

Kontera - $0,16

Project Wonderful - $4,16

Total: $101,70

Not much income yet, but hopefully it will be a little better next month. I have just started using Kontera, and it will be interesting to see how that are turning out.

Expenses

Project Wonderful - $210

TLA - $100

Contests - $183

TNX - $10

Other - $40

Total: $543

Loss: $441,30

So, there you have it. Black on white. I did not expect profit this month, and diden’t get that either. I have chosen to use some founds to kickstart this blog, and in my opinion it has worked out pretty well.

I’m not going to write so detailed about each sum above, but I can mention that the service from TLA was money out of the window. As you might know you don’t get to know the URL of the site where you buy links on before after you have paid. Sure, it’s easy to cancel the buy after, but you don’t get your money back, you have to use it on other links. I spent hours trying to find descents site to advertise on, but every one of them where rubbish sites, with almost no traffic. (though the alexa said something else) I stopped trying to find a decent site, and the money where just staying in the account. Then suddenly one day someone at TLA thought it was a good idea to buy two spots on a site for my money and choosing a anchor of their own. Sure they linked to my site, but they did not get my approval at all. I did not send them an email on the issue, but I’m not going to spend another dime in that company again!

Since the start in medio January I have gotten 65 RSS subscribers, and the number is still growing. I don’t think I’m going to use as much money on advertising in March, but you never know.

Statestic

To track my stats I use Google Analytics, here are some numbers for you to look at.

  • Visits - 5,923
    Page Views - 10,626
    Pages/Visit - 1.79
Avg. Time on Site - 00:02:52
    Bounce Rate - 70.62%

The February Goal

In the start of February I wrote my goals for the month. Here is how that went:

  • Get over 50 subscribers [ YES! ]
  • Sell one 125×125 spot [ NO! ]
  • Write 20 posts [ YES! ]
  • Get over 5.000 unique visitors [ YES! ]

It’s actually a little disappointing that I didn’t sell a 125×125 spot. But I did not make an effort of either. You want to get your word out, make sure to book your ad today!

The Site eCPM

To see how well sites are monetized you can look at you eCPM. This means how much you are making of each 1000 views. To get this number you simply take the page views and dived it on 1000 then dived the income on that number. VikingBlogger got 10,626 page views, and earned $101,70 which equals an eCPM of $9,57 which aren’t all that bad. Though JohnChow manages to get that number aprox $100 higher. I’ll get there, mark my words!

So, the month is over, and we can start on March. It’s going to be fun, and I got some good ideas to post. The big 20.000 entrecard contest are ending in two weeks, so make sure you enter. If you haven’t subscribed to the feed yet, do that as well. Got any question, shot away!
