Adsense For Games Are Looking For Beta Publisher

25% of all internett users, or 200 million people are playing online games. For a long time it has been hard to monetize games. Sure, you could put ads on the site where the game are, but the game could still be ripped of the site, and then displayed on another site.

The last couple of years there have been growing up a couple good in-game advertising companies such as “Mochiads” and “GameJacket”. These companies are only focusing on in-game ads, and have been a hit in the industry.

Say hello to Google In-Game Advertising

So, Google wants to be a part of about everything on the Internet, and finally they have started to look at the online game industry. Now they are searching after beta publishers for their new Adsense for Games program. This program makes it easy to display ads in placements you define, such as before a game, after a level, or when the game is over. The Adwords sales persons will sell the in-game ads directly to brand advertisers such as McDonalds and Sony, and there will also be contextually targeted text and image ads based on content and demographic information.

Only for the big guys

As usual only the big boys are eligible to join the beta program. Publishers must have a minimum of 500,000 game plays and have 80% of their traffic from the U.S. or the U.K. Thats a really high percent of US and UK traffic on an arcade site!

A couple of highlighted publishers are Armorgames, ArcadeTown and HeavyGames. All of these sites got an alexa below 5.000 and probably well over 100.000 uniques each day.

Google AdSense for Feeds

So, now the Adsense for Feeds are finally out. It has been available within the Feedburner system before, but now you can set it all up in your adsense account.

As all of you know, Google have bought Feedburner some months back, and thats way this service is integrated in the Feedburner system.

The Options

On the setup page you got a couple options on how you want your ad to be. Here are all of them:

Ad type

Choose if you want to display text and image ads or just one of those types.

Frequency

This is a nice option. Here you can choose how often you should show an ad.

Post Length

How long should your post be to allow ads in it? This can be a good option if you don’t want to disply ads on short posts.

Position

You got two options on where you want to display the ad. On the top of the post, or on the bottom.

Colors

As an regular AdSense unit you can choose what color your ad should have. There is also an interesting option to let AdSense to optimize the color. I haven’t tried this myself, but if you have I would love to hear if it works!

Feeds

The last thing you have to choose is which feed this ad should appear in. If you have an Feedburner account you can migrate that account with your AdSense account. (Follow the link) If you don’t have an Feedburner account/feed you can make one with the link provided.

The migration process is for now manual and what you need to do is the following:

Send an mail to adsense-support-aff@google.com and provide the following information:

  • Your FeedBurner account username
  • The Google Account email address you use to sign in to AdSense

So, how many of you guys monetize your feeds?

Money Magnet – Next Big Thing?

moneymagnet.gif

Today I have spent $20 to buy myself a Money Magnet, which you can find in the sidebar.

It is a 125×125 widget that you place on your site/blog. Other people can then buy the widget with your refferal url, and the great part about it, its not possible to get one without using an refferal url. :) So, to be allowed to sell these widgets you have to buy one yourself. Based on how much you pay you can earn up to $50 each time you sell one. I paid $20 for mine, and earns $10 each time someone buys on with my link. So, have to sell 2 widgets to breake even, that should be possible right?

moneymagnet-table.gif

As you can se on the table I can not sell widgets that costs $10. That way I secure that I earn $10 per sale instead of $5. Do as me, buy a $20 widget. :) sell 2 and start to earn some cash! The money comes to your paypal instantly!

Sold my Soul – Joined PayPerPost

Update 1. mai 2008: I are no longer using PPP services. I want my PR!
payperpost-logo.gifAs I’m looking after ways to monetize this blog, getting paid to do reviews are a natural way to make money. Today VikingBlogger.com finally got approved at PayPerPost. Long story short they provide bloggers with reviews, where they pay them (the bloggers) between $5-$200 per review. (Usually in the $10 range)

There are several houndreds of offers avalible to get rewied, but you can’t pick them all. The advertisers that makes the offers can set some terms which your blog have to meet. The most used one is page rank. If you don’t have x high page rank you don’t get paid to review the product.

Since VikingBlogger.com don’t have a page rank yet I’m not looking on a high income stream from PayPerPost yet, but it might get alright with time. And don’t fear, I’m not going to fill this blog up with paid reviews of all sorts. If I’m doing a review it’s going to be something that has to do with the theme of the blog, or something that I’m really interested in. (ex. phones)

$20 sign-up bonus (kinda)

When you get your blog approved you got at least one offer avaliable for you, and thats PayPerPost themself. Write a little “I joined PayPerPost” post at your blog, and get paid $20 doing so. (Like I am now!)

Are you selling reviews on your blog? Thoughts?

AdSense for Video beta Starting up

The time is almost here, where we can add videos to our site, with inline ads. Inside AdSense announced yesterday that they are now open for betatesters. Thing is though, there are some requirements that you have to meet. First of you need to live in the US. (I don’t) Then you need a site that at a minimum, serves one million video plays each month and are based in the us with English language sites. (I wish!)

The good thing about all this is that they are finally in beta, and hopefully they will open up for people outside us soon.

They have also made a site with a couple example videos, you can find them here.

What do you think?

Giving Kontera a Try

kontera-logo.gifI have added Kontera to the blog. To make short story, well, short, it’s a inlink program, and it works like this:

  • Add a little code snippet in the footer
  • Kontera checks the text on the site, and matches some of the words in the post with keywords their advertisers have. These words are then automatically made to a link, and leads to advertiser.
  • You get paid on a cpc basis.

kontera-big.gifWhen you point your cursor over the link a little box will appear, and a little information of the site/product that are being advertised are shown.

I have them on the site as a test, and will check if it works. What do you think about this metode? Do you use it yourself?

Things To Avoid When Affiliate Marketing With B2c Sites

This post was written by Emilia from Affiliate Tips.

What not to do in business is as important as any list of how to be successful. One of the great challenges that a business owner faces is not just making a profit, but admitting fault. While it’s important for an entrepreneur to be confident, this should never veer into overconfidence. Affiliate marketing is a tough business and a tough business owner will be able to recognize both what is going right and what is going wrong.

Here are some things to avoid in affiliate marketing at the onset. These are major reasons why B2c affiliate marketing sites don’t get off the ground.

Problem No. 1 — Not Treating the Job as a Legitimate Business

Very often, new affiliate marketers get into the job as part-time work, perhaps in the night hours after working a day job. While this is possible, it’s very important to realize that affiliate marketing takes a fair amount of effort and man-hours.

If you are unwilling, or unable to devote sufficient attention to running a stable of affiliate marketing sites, you are setting yourself up for failure. Just because affiliate marketing is cheaper than running a standalone business does not mean it shouldn’t be given the same attention.

Problem No. 2 — Not scrutinizing affiliate marketing programs.

Don’t just look at the dollar sign payout for affiliate marketing programs. Look at how well the program is marketed throughout the web. Does it have a good web presence? Is the program oversaturated? Many sites offer reviews so you can find the best affiliate programs for you.

In addition, check to see if the program has had any problem with making payments in the past. Finally, see if an affiliate program has a good conversion rate — the number of clicks vs. the number of purchases or sign-ups. This has to do in part with the effectiveness of your own site, but you can see how successful other marketers have been with a particular program.

Problem No. 3 — Not Changing With the Times

An affiliate marketer must always be looking to update a site. In the age of Web 2.0, this means adding blog software, forums, social networking and other interactive media. It is highly recommended that you monitor the site’s traffic to gauge both in and out clicks to determine which content has been most effective and which affiliate links are getting the most traction. You should update content on the site frequently, in addition to changing affiliate programs that are not adequately converting.

Problem No. 4 — Don’t overload a site with affiliate links.

The affiliate links should be topic-specific, which is key to creating a website’s brand. Too many affiliate links looks unprofessional. It has a “spam” quality that will turn visitors away. Web surfers are pretty savvy and can recognize when a site is not legitimate. Sometimes less is more: fewer affiliate links can lead to more conversions than a dizzying array of links with no central purpose.
