The Viewty Project – The Start

Ok, yesterday I said that I had some ideas that I was going to announce this week. Here comes the first one.

As you might already know I have bought myself a new phone, the LG KU990 Viewty. Thing is, when I get new stuff I tend to get really passionate about it, and as I’m a internet guy I tend to make new websites, dedicated to my new interest.

What I got in my mind now is a forum dedicated to the Viewty. Say welcome to Viewtyforum.com.

What I’m going to do is to document how I build up the forum, and how thw growth is. All this will happen on this blog. This way, the blog gets good content, you as a reader might learn some new things, I can see where I go wrong, and might get help from you guys. :)

The plan is; Build the forum up to a couple hundred members (to start with) and get a daily activity on the forum. Get a PR and a nice Alexa. Then after 3-6 months flip it for a nice amount to another webmaster which wants to take it to the next level.

Alright. Let the game begin!

What I have done so far

Not much have been done yet, but here you got a list:

  • Registered the domain
  • Downloaded PHPBB3 and uploaded it to the domain
  • Found myself a nice template and installed it
  • Made a simple logo in Photoshop and replaced the default one.
  • Started to make some topics

There we are, nothing much has been done yet, and there is loads to do. Thing is, it’s not easy to start an forum, since an empty one doesn’t attract new members. The way I’m going to do this is to make several topics where it’s easy to join the discussion. I’m also going to make a couple topics with helpful tips aka where to download free games, themes etc.

So, my work today will be to make topics, I’m also going to look for an mod that shows the latest topics in a list on the front page.

Do you think this could be interesting reading?

  1. Let me guess: you havnt tested the design in IE?
Im at work now, and we use IE7 here, and I only get the 2 first forums up. And I cant find an answere button anywhere on the topics.

I registered because I mean that I can help people on different topics (I work as an mobilephone seller), and want I to see how fast and how good you can build that forum, from the inside ;)

  2. Haven’t tested it on IE, but I don’t think the reason are laying there. I’m still messing around with the permission rules in the admin panel, and I think it should be ok now. Confirm?

Anyway, lovely to have you as an member Caper! :)

  4. But, why not keep it yourself? If you can make money on the forum ? And why should people use the Viewty-Only forum and not other mobile forums? hehe

  5. Im not hundred percent certain that I’m going to sell it, but I might, since mobile phones changes, and a niche forum/site like viewtyforum.com will not be around for ages.

They will use a viewty only forum because they don’t have to look at several topics that aren’t about the phone they are looking for info about. It’s a really small niche, but there are possibility’s. :)

  6. Tips: Make several fake users who posts problems you have, and answere them with other users. In that way the whole site gets more organic.

  8. Kango: why cheat when you can do it the right way, get REAL users to register… the problem with fake users is that you cant use them all always. and by that, you get “dead” users…. its ACTIVE users that are worth money ;)
