I’m going to Buy a Plug/Review - Please Help me!

plug.jpgAs you might already know I’m running a contest. My plan is to get some new readers and some new backlinks to the site. So far it have went fine, with 10+ people participating. I have used up my budget on PW ($100) and at the moment I don’t advertise the contest at all. The next point in my marketing plan is to by some reviews on other blogs. But I haven’t decided if I should buy a review from John Chow for $450 or buy some more on smaller blogs for the same amount.

That is what I need your help with. What do you think would bring most traffic/participants?

Would be great if you got links to other blogs telling about there experince with a plug from Mr. Chow.

  1. Hey there. I think you should go with John Cow and then splurg for one more ;)

A review on http://www.carlocab.com in my opinion will be GREAT for your site :)

    Regards,

    - Mark

  2. Thanks Mark, but it’s really coming down to the money here. $450 for a review at chow + $80 at Carl. Thats starting to be a nice chump (is that a word?) of money.

I think I have to go with one of the solution. Either it’s Chow going solo, or something like Carls blog * 4-5 other similar blogs.

  3. I think Carl’s blog + more similar ones will be best. Perhaps something like one $250 review on JohnCow (not Chow) and the rest on smallish blogs?

    Viraj.
Oh, btw, the word’s chunk of money ;)

  4. Honestly, go with the Chow, reason being this: His reader base is larger than smaller blogs, there is documented proof of the effect that his blogs reviews have, and more people will probably see it, just my two cents.

  5. You can also submit your contest to the contest beat @ http://www.contest beat.com , they is a great following with that site and a lot of people go to it just to find out whats going on for contests.

you can also submit your contest you certain forums for free or for a small fee.

you should also get a 468×60 banner made for your own site to advertise your contest with in your site as once the post is a few days old it is going to be hard to find it.

also make a 125×125 png for entrecard and surf there system. Your card should have some details about your contest on it, this way when people click on your 125×125 ad they come to your site and when they see your contest ad here they click on it and go to the contest page.

Does any of that make sense?

  6. Thing is, Chow got 15.000 subscribers. The article of my contest will then go to their readers/emails. JohnCow got almost 1400 readers. Ten times smaller subscribers base, still he charges $250 for the review. Not saying hes not worth it, just comparing the different’s.

Anyone know how much click you could expect of a review from the Cow?

Feed Flare: Good tips you got there. I have actually made some banners which I’m going to buy on VikingBlogger when theres a week or two left before the contest ends.

Thanks for the tips about contest beat, I have sent them a mail.

    Keep up the discussion guys!

  7. I still have not got much time to enter the contest.. But have to say, john chow’s huge number of subscribers would rush in to your blog if its featured in his blog. Its worth is for a buzz of traffic.

  8. My suggestion is as follow. Try to find blogs that do not offer reviews through the reviewme site. IMO the prices for reviews through them are too expensive. Instead, try to find smaller blogs and contact the owner directly, then ask if it poossible, and how much it will cost you, to make him/her post a review on his/her’s site.

The benefit of spreading these reviews will be more backlinks over time (be sure the blogs have a do-follow on posts) and therefore better rankings, for less money, for vikinblogger.com

If you need something to brag about in youre blog, then go for a johnchow review :P

  9. I would 100% forget spending $450 on a John Chow. If you have a 100$ PW budget $450 is way out of proportion I’d say. Also it’s a ONE time post.

If I were you I’d contacting John Cow and others of that caliber with some grade A content you have NOT published yet and see if they will let you guest post.

Better then a review and you get exposure. I’d do that. I know some people who got Chow’d and sure you get a spike but lot’s of it leaves quickly.

I just think it’s a really big expenditure based on current budget and unwarranted :D

Some will definitely take your guest blogs I think. If not THEN consider paying but why bother?

I’m sure you know some other mid range MMO blogs. If not go to EC and look through there first.

    My rambled on $0.02 :)
